In the first year of the Xining era (1068) during the Northern Song Dynasty, Zhou Dunyi visited Jianfeng Mountain and inscribed the four characters “廉泉之源” (Source of the Honest Spring), which are 0.96 meters tall and 4 meters wide. The *Guangdong Epigraphy Summary* records: “Zhou Zi, while serving as the Criminal Justice Intendant of Guangdong, visited Jian Mountain and inscribed the four characters ‘Source of the Honest Spring’ on the stone wall. Though the structure is simple and unadorned, every stroke is meticulously executed, emanating a dignified and principled aura that commands respect.”

Zhou Dunyi (1017–1073), courtesy name Dunyi, was a native of Yingdao in Daozhou (present-day Dao County, Hunan). He was a philosopher of the Northern Song Dynasty and the founder of the Cheng-Zhu School of Neo-Confucianism (also known as Daoxue). He held official positions such as Judicial Secretary of the Supreme Court, Imperial Palace Attendant, and Transport Commissioner of Guangdong. His notable works include *Explanation of the Diagram of the Supreme Ultimate*, *The Universal Order*, and *The Complete Works of Zhou Dunyi*.

In 1981, the Lian County People's Government designated the site as a cultural relic protection unit. On July 17, 2002, it was included in the fourth batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units.
