Longkou Village Tomb Cluster

The Longkou Village Tomb Cluster is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Longkou Village Tomb Cluster is located at Xiashu Mountain in Longkou Village, Lianzhou City. In 1963, 13 tombs dating from the Western Jin to the Tang Dynasty were excavated, yielding a collection of valuable cultural relics. Most of the tombs are brick-chambered, varying in structure. The bricks are mostly red and bear impressed patterns such as vein lines, wave patterns, net patterns, as well as inscribed dates like “Erected on the 30th day of the 6th month in the 4th year of Yongjia” and “Erected in the 6th month of the 6th year of Yongjia.” Artifacts unearthed include pottery items such as bowls, jars, bowls, plates, and lamp stands, as well as funerary objects like pottery houses, stoves, granaries, wells, and ducks. There are also pottery models such as those depicting plowing and harrowing, along with objects like bronze bowls, copper coins, iron scissors, and iron tripods, totaling more than 60 pieces. The model artifacts from the Western Jin tombs exhibit strong local characteristics, with hard gray pottery often featuring fine checkered patterns. The pottery oxen have long, curved horns, stout bodies, and short legs, closely resembling the image of water buffalo. The paddy field models include pottery figures driving oxen to plow and harrow, providing important physical evidence for the study of agricultural production in northern Guangdong during the Western and Eastern Jin periods.
