Junzi Pond

Junzi Pond

Junzi Pond is a cultural relic protection unit of Lianzhou City.

During the Shaoxing era of the Southern Song Dynasty, Chen Yi, the magistrate of Lianzhou, built "Junzi Pond" in front of Yanxi Pavilion to commemorate the renowned Northern Song Neo-Confucian scholar Zhou Dunyi. In the 20th year of the Tang Dynasty's Zhenyuan era (804 AD), it was named after Han Yu wrote the "Record of Yanxi Pavilion," which mentioned "the pond is called: the pond of the junzi (gentleman)."

The original pond was small and shallow. In the 1990s, the Lian County People's Government allocated funds to excavate and expand it to its current state.

In 2011, the Lianzhou City People's Government designated it as part of the second batch of cultural relic protection units of Lianzhou City, protected under the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Cultural Relics."

Protected area: extending 30 meters outward from the cultural relic structure itself;

Construction control zone: extending 30 meters outward from the protected area.
