The Maba Man Museum serves as a patriotic education base.

The Maba Man Museum, also known as the Qujiang District Museum of Shaoguan City, is located within the Maba Man Site Scenic Area, 3 kilometers southwest of Maba Town in Qujiang District, Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province. It neighbors the Shixia Site and the Maba Man Site—both national key cultural relics protection units—and is a site museum named after the famous early human fossil “Maba Man.”

Established in 1978, it is responsible for the cultural relics protection management, collection, research, and exhibition work of Qujiang District, Shaoguan City. In 2000, it was listed as a patriotic education base in Guangdong Province.

The current museum building was constructed in 1988, covering an area of 12,000 square meters, with a construction area of 3,300 square meters, including 2,400 square meters of exhibition space and 600 square meters of storage space.

The exhibits mainly include: the “Maba Man” exhibition, the “Shixia Site” exhibition, the “Ancient Ceramics Masterpieces” exhibition, a photo exhibition on visits to Qujiang by Party and state leaders as well as provincial and ministerial-level officials, and the “Zhang Jiuling Memorial Hall” exhibition. The museum’s collection includes fossils, stone tools, ceramics, bronzeware, ironware, jade artifacts, calligraphy and paintings, and revolutionary relics, totaling 4,441 items. Among them, there are 11 sets of first-class relics, 38 sets of second-class relics, and 332 sets of third-class relics.

Since 2009, the museum has been fully open to the public free of charge, receiving nearly 100,000 visitors annually on average. As a patriotic education base at the provincial, municipal, and district levels, it plays an important role in promoting spiritual civilization and serving as a window for the strategy of revitalizing the country through science and technology.
