Hanhengwei

Hanhengwei is located in Dadui Village (also known as Dadui), Shangdong, Lingxi Town, Qujiang County. It was first built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. According to the Huang Family Genealogy of Dadui Village: “But later, with dynastic changes and additional provincial taxes imposed, bandits and robbers slaughtered innocent lives. People everywhere built fortified villages out of fear… Therefore, after gathering discussions, we invited craftsmen from Hunan to build walls around the village to achieve peace and safety.”

The enclosure is an irregular circle, covering an area of approximately 27,000 square meters. The wall is 7 meters high, 1 to 0.9 meters thick, and 625 meters in circumference. The top of the wall is pedestrian-accessible and equipped with crenels and gun ports. There is one main gate to the north, one to the south, and two to the east, totaling four gates. Each gate originally had a watchtower. Both the gates and the walls were built with granite strips and have undergone two renovations. There is a natural spring inside the enclosure that flows year-round. Today, over 140 households still reside within the walls.
