Zhang Jiuling Memorial Hall

The Zhang Jiuling Memorial Hall is located within the Maba Man Site Scenic Area in Qujiang District, Shaoguan City. It is the only memorial hall dedicated to Zhang Jiuling in Shaoguan. Established in 1988, it was built to commemorate the 1310th anniversary of Zhang Jiuling’s birth. The hall houses the family genealogy of the Zhang clan and features exhibitions of calligraphy and photography works created in his honor, with a statue of Zhang Jiuling erected in front.

Zhang Jiuling was the Chancellor of the Shangshu Province during the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty. He was a renowned statesman, writer, poet, and eminent official known for his courage, vision, and integrity. Loyal and dedicated to his duties, he upheld principles, spoke candidly, appointed the virtuous and capable, refused to bend the law for personal gain or curry favor with the powerful, and dared to stand up against evil forces. He made significant contributions to the “Prosperous Kaiyuan Era.” His five-character classical poems, expressed in simple yet refined language, conveyed profound reflections on life and played a major role in eliminating the flowery and ornate poetic style inherited from the Six Dynasties period.
