The Nasitai Settlement Site
The Nasitai Settlement Site is a cultural tourism attraction.
The Nasitai Settlement Site is located in Nasitai Gacha, Bayanhan Sumu, Bairin Right Banner. The site stretches 1,500 meters from east to west and 1,000 meters from north to south, with remnants of a surrounding moat. A wealth of pottery, stone tools, jade carvings, and bone artifacts have been unearthed.
The pottery is primarily sandy brown pottery, along with a significant number of painted pottery pieces. The vessel shapes include jars, urns, cups, bowls, spinning whorls, and spinning melons. Most surfaces are plain, while some are decorated with “Zigzag” patterns, fingernail impressions, grid patterns, meander patterns, and woven patterns at the base. Painted designs mostly feature diamonds, triangles, triangular swirls, parallel diagonal lines, vertical lines, and band-like motifs. Black pigment is predominantly used, with purple-red being rare.
Stone tools are divided into three types: chipped stone tools, ground stone tools, and microliths. Production tools include hoe-shaped implements, sickle-shaped implements, knives, axes, grinding plates, grinding rods, and disc-shaped objects. The microliths, made from flint and jasper, include arrowheads, drills, blades, and scrapers.
The jade carvings are exquisitely crafted, featuring dragon-shaped objects, bird-shaped objects, silkworms, pigs, fish, jade figurines, hook-shaped tools, axes, and tri-link discs. Bone artifacts mainly consist of bone needles and bone awls, along with a small number of shell ornaments.
The Nasitai Site is currently the largest discovered “Hongshan Culture” relic site north of the Xar Moron River in Chifeng City. The exquisite collection of jade artifacts provides new insights into the social life of humans during the Hongshan Culture period.
