The predecessor of the Liaoshangjing Museum was the Bairin Left Banner Museum. Located in the southern part of Lindong Town, Bairin Left Banner, it covers an area of 6,600 square meters with a building area of 4,500 square meters, making it a first-class museum in the autonomous region dedicated to the Liao Dynasty imperial capital. The exterior design of the museum was sketched by Gao Yanqing, former mayor of Chifeng City, who also personally inscribed the museum’s name, while the Chifeng Urban Architectural Design Institute was responsible for the design. The museum’s shape is modeled after the stone house of the Liao Ancestral Prefecture, exuding a profound sense of history. The eight marble pillars in the main hall represent the Eight Tribes of the Khitan; the horizontal beams feature white marble reliefs of a mystical bird from Liao Dynasty Buddhism. The museum emblem, with a diameter of two meters, is shaped after the museum’s treasured Liao Dynasty silver coin, which bears the four large Khitan characters “Tianchao Wansui” (Long Live the Heavenly Dynasty). The internal structure consists of six parts: exhibition halls, cultural relics storage, specimen rooms, offices, data rooms, and a library. The museum houses 15,000 historical relics unearthed across the banner, including those from the Neolithic “Hongshan Culture” and “Fuhe Culture,” as well as nearly 10,000 specimens, all of which hold significant research value.
