Attraction Introduction

The Palace of the Republic is located in the center of Bucharest and was built between 1930 and 1937. It was originally a royal palace.

Viewed from above, the entire structure of the Palace of the Republic has a concave shape, with its left wing serving as the office of the State Council and the right wing housing the Art Museum. Between 1955 and 1959, the Palace Hall was added behind the Palace of the Republic. This hall connects to the concave part of the main building and serves as a venue for important meetings and formal banquets.

In the early 19th century, it was the site of the Romanian royal family’s palace. After the demolition of the royal palace, the Palace of the Romanian Kingdom was constructed on the same spot, which is now known as the Palace of the Republic. It served as the office of the State Council of the Socialist Republic of Romania until the overthrow of the Ceaușescu regime in December 1989.
