Attraction Introduction

The Danube River flows swiftly and empties into the Black Sea, forming the largest and best-preserved delta in Europe. Located in eastern Romania, the Danube Delta is a popular tourist destination in the country. It was formed by the continuous sedimentation of silt carried down from upstream by the Danube day and night. This area boasts breathtaking scenery and abundant resources, and is hailed as Europe’s largest geological and biological laboratory. The delta is crisscrossed with waterways and dotted with wetlands. Thousands of canals and water channels form a mysterious watery maze that connects the villages, fish farms, and farmlands nestled among them, resembling a land-and-water labyrinth in nature. Lush forests line both banks, with tall oaks, poplars, willows, and various shrubs visible everywhere. The lake surfaces ripple with azure waves, and the water is crystal clear. Red-and-white water lilies and water fleas dance on the surface.

“Floating islands” are one of the wonders in the heart of the delta. Their surface looks like solid land covered with thriving plants, but beneath lies a body of water. The delta is also a “paradise” for birds and animals. The countless lakes and marshes of the Danube Delta nurture over 300 species of birds and 45 types of fish unique to the Danube and its tributaries.
