Attraction Introduction

Located in the mid-section of the Southern Carpathians, about 130 kilometers north of Bucharest, there lies a fairytale-like picturesque mountain town named Sinaia with a history of 300 years. The renowned Peleș Castle is situated on a slope in this town.

This solemn and luxurious Gothic building was initiated in 1873, with the first phase completed in 1883 and the entire construction finished in 1914. Its exterior reflects the style of the German Renaissance, with three spires piercing the sky. In front of the palace lies a marble terrace adorned with fountains and a variety of exquisitely carved stone sculptures. The interior of the palace is splendid and tastefully furnished, featuring 160 rooms of various sizes including the Armory Hall, Council Hall, Offices, Music Hall, Banquet Hall, Small Theater, Bedrooms, and Living Rooms, showcasing architectural styles from Germany, Italy, England, Turkey, and other countries. The Armory Hall houses a collection of German weapons and armors from the 15th–16th centuries, as well as military gear made in India, Persia, and Turkey.

In 1866, the Council of Ministers of the then United Principalities of Romania decided to invite Prince Karl of Germany to become the King of Romania. In 1872, King Carol commissioned German architects to design and build Peleș Castle, which upon completion became an immortal masterpiece.
