Palace of the Parliament

The Palace of the Parliament is a building located in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. It serves as the seat of the Romanian Parliament and is also a tourist attraction. According to the Guinness World Records, it is the second-largest building in the world after the Pentagon and the largest civilian administrative building.

Construction of the Palace of the Parliament began in 1984 and was carried out day and night, with then-Romanian leader Nicolae Ceaușescu closely monitoring the progress. By the time the Romanian Revolution broke out in 1989, 70% of the construction had been completed, after which work was temporarily halted. Later, construction resumed, and elevators were added. It is now largely finished, with the building consisting of 16 floors — 12 above ground and 4 below — and housing over 1,000 rooms. Its exterior is constructed from marble and high-quality wood, giving it an extremely grand and imposing appearance. Parts of the building are open to tourists, and while photography is generally not allowed inside, visitors may take photos on the day of their visit if they pay an additional photography fee along with the admission ticket.
