Transfăgărășan Highway, also known as DN7C, stretches 90 kilometers and is Romania’s highest and most spectacular road — one of the best in the world. It crosses the Fagaras Mountains and runs from north to south over the highest point in the southern Carpathians, connecting the historical regions of Transylvania and Wallachia, as well as the cities of Sibiu and Pitești.

From the top of the Transfăgărășan Highway, you can reach Balea Lake, a glacial lake formed thousands of years ago. There is also a one-kilometer-long tunnel at the mountain peak. The northern section of the road is the most breathtaking, featuring steep switchbacks that descend sharply in S-curves, offering stunning panoramic views. Due to weather conditions during other months, the highway is typically open only from June to September, meaning that the full driving experience is only available in summer. The British TV show *Top Gear* once named this road the best in the world.
