Iași is the capital of Iași County in Romania, the country's fourth-largest city, and an important hub of social, cultural, academic, and artistic life. As Romania’s “cultural capital,” Iași represents and preserves landmarks of Romanian history, offering numerous worthwhile attractions.

Iași is a renowned heritage city, home to many historic sites including churches and monasteries that are over 500 years old, as well as contemporary architecture, many of which have been designated Romanian national historical monuments. The Iași Metropolitan Cathedral serves as the seat of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Iași and the Archbishops of Moldavia and Bukovina. Its architecture draws inspiration from Italian Renaissance buildings and it is the largest Orthodox church in Romania. In addition, you can visit the impressive Palace of Culture in Iași, the Romanian National Theatre—the oldest theatre in Romania—and others.

The city features a variety of public spaces, from city squares to public parks. Established in 1856, the Iași Botanical Garden is Romania’s first botanical garden, covering 100 hectares and cultivating over 10,000 plant species, making it a great destination for flower and plant enthusiasts.
