Craiova

Craiova is located on the western bank of the Jiu River in central Oltenia, north of the Eastern Carpathian Mountains and south of the Danube River. It is the capital of Dolj County, Romania. The city is the sixth largest in Romania and also an important political and trade hub.

The Saint Dimitrie Church in Craiova is an Eastern Orthodox church. The current building was constructed in 1889 in the Byzantine Revival style. Though not particularly grand, it exudes a sacred atmosphere. The Craiova Art Museum focuses on Romanian and French sculpture as well as the works of modern photographer Constantin Brâncuși. It also houses oil paintings by renowned Romanian painters. The Craiova Botanical Garden, established in 1952, functions both as a botanical garden and a research institution. It cultivates plants from various regions of Romania, providing research material for students of the University of Craiova.
