Târgu Jiu

Târgu Jiu is located on the Jiu River in Romania, within the historical region of Wallachia, and serves as the capital of Gorj County. The city's name derives from the Jiu River that flows through it, and during World War II, a concentration camp was situated here.

The Jiu Bridge (Jiu Bridge) is Târgu Jiu’s most photogenic and famous bridge. It is a historic truss bridge that spans the Jiu River, built in 1896 with five arches. The city features three major monuments: the Endless Column, the Gate of the Kiss, and the Table of Silence. The Endless Column was erected in honor of Romanian soldiers and is considered a masterpiece of modern art. The Table of Silence consists of a stone table surrounded by hourglass-shaped stone benches, symbolizing time.
