Ploiești is the capital of Prahova County in Romania, located 56 kilometers north of Bucharest and is the ninth most populous city in the country. The city’s history dates back to 1596, and by the mid-19th century, it had developed into a world-class center for oil extraction and refining. It remains a well-known oil industry hub in Romania.

Ploiești is home to educational and research institutions such as the Oil and Gas University, the Teachers' Training College, and the Institute of Petrochemistry. It is widely recognized as a university city in Romania.
