Miercurea Ciuc is located in central Romania and is the capital of Harghita County, situated in the Olt River valley. It is one of the coldest cities in Romania, making winter outdoor sports especially popular and earning it a well-known reputation as a winter holiday destination.

Petőfi Street (Petőfi Street) is the main street of Miercurea Ciuc, lined with restaurants and cafes on both sides, making it a great place to experience a laid-back lifestyle. The city has several Baroque churches and Renaissance castles, among which Mikó Castle is particularly famous. Mikó Castle is the city’s most important historic monument, measuring 75 meters in length and 70 meters in width. Construction began in 1623, and it now houses an ethnographic museum that showcases the heritage of the Székely people. A few kilometers east of the city lies a monastery that houses a wooden statue of Saint Mary. It has been a traditional pilgrimage site for Roman Catholics since 1567 and attracts thousands of pilgrims every year around Pentecost.
