Vlkolínec Village

Introduction It’s incredible that just under a month after the ruins of Vlkolínec Village were discovered, it was officially recognized as a World Heritage site. Today, Slovakia has a total of five World Heritage sites: Vlkolínec, Spiš Castle and the surrounding villages (including the Church of the Holy Spirit in Žehra), the medieval mining town of Banská Štiavnica, the Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst, and the Domica Cave. The Vlkolínec Village site preserves forty-five traditional houses typical of Central European villages, making it the most complete such group in the region of Slovakia, where such traditional wooden cottages are often seen in the mountains. Features The Vlkolínec Village site fully preserves the traditional houses of a Central European village and is the most intact collection of such villages in the region, where such traditional wooden cottages are frequently found in the mountains.
