An agreement on the working holiday program has been reached between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Slovakia. Today (15th), the two countries completed the signing of a “Memorandum of Understanding on Working Holiday Programs.” The program is scheduled to launch this June. Slovakia is the sixth European country—following Germany, the UK, Ireland, Belgium, and Hungary—and the 11th country globally to sign a similar agreement with us.

Upon implementation, Taiwan and Slovakia will each offer 100 annual quotas, issuing one-year working holiday visas to eligible applicants. The visa is open to youths aged 18 to 35. In the future, young people from both countries can visit each other’s nations through tourism, work, or self-funded study programs to learn languages, experience local customs, culture, and societal trends firsthand, fostering mutual understanding and friendship.
Slovakia is a landlocked country located in Central and Eastern Europe, with a population of approximately 5.5 million and an area of over 49,000 square kilometers. Its official language is Slovak. Following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, Slovakia became an independent nation, establishing a democratic multi-party political system. It joined the European Union in 2004 and is also a member of international organizations such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Schengen Agreement, and the Visegrád Group. Geographically, Slovakia borders Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, Hungary to the south, and the Czech Republic and Austria to the west. The country boasts rich natural landscapes, historical culture, and folk heritage. Its capital, Bratislava, is situated along the Danube River, giving it a strong artistic atmosphere.
