Over the centuries, many renowned engineers and scientists have visited this place, greatly enhancing the town’s fame. This ancient medieval mining center gradually evolved into a town, featuring Renaissance palaces, 16th-century churches, elegant squares, and castles. The town center and its surroundings form a unified whole, preserving significant remnants of past mining and metallurgical activities.

The city was built directly on the mining site, with its layout adapted to the complex local terrain. The urban blocks are most densely concentrated in the river valley area, expanding outward from Trinity Square. Most of the houses inhabited by miners were constructed at varying heights and separated by streets. The urban landscape is both culturally rich and industrially distinctive, consisting mainly of a large number of residential buildings constructed between the 15th and 17th centuries, in addition to important Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and traditional monumental structures.

These houses, along with Renaissance palaces, form the main framework of Trinity Square and surround the entrances to various tunnels. A Baroque-era commemorative column stands in the center of the square, while numerous industrial facilities are scattered throughout the town; these include tunnels, dams, ore chutes, drainage channels, storage facilities, and ventilation systems.
