The Presidential Palace (Prezidentsky palac), formerly known as Grassalkovich Palace, is situated at Hodžovo námestie in the northern part of the Old Town, within the splendid Grassalkovich Palace, facing the grand and luxurious Forum Hotel. The two elegant buildings complement each other beautifully.

The Baroque-style Grassalkovich Palace was built in 1760 by order of Duke Anton Grassalkovich, leader of the Hungarian Court Chamber. At that time, nobles were moving from the crowded Old Town to more spacious and comfortable areas, constructing lavish mansions around the city center. This beautiful and imposing Baroque residence, located just outside Michalská Gate, was one of them. The palace boasts numerous exquisite rooms and an impressive staircase. Composer Joseph Haydn conducted an indoor orchestra performance here in 1772. After its reconstruction in 1996, it became the Slovak Presidential Palace, and the lovely French garden at the back has been opened to the public as a park. Today, this is where the President of Slovakia resides and conducts daily life, as well as receives important domestic and foreign dignitaries and hosts major state banquets.
