Introduction   The lake has an average depth of only 3 to 4 meters, so the water temperature can quickly rise to 20–22 degrees, and sometimes even reach 28 degrees. The northern shore of the lake is somewhat deeper and serves as the hub for water sports. The southern shore is especially beloved by families and children, where even very young kids can play on the sandy beaches, grassy areas, and in the shallow waters. Of course, Lake Balaton can also be dangerous at times—when a storm approaches, warning lights will be activated, and visitors must return to shore. That said, don’t go too far away, as you can still watch the stormy Lake Balaton from the shore, where the roaring and churning waters showcase their most magnificent side, offering a truly spectacular sight. Highlights   Lake Balaton is the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe. Its warm waters are refreshing and soothing.
