Chain Bridge

Introduction   During World War II, the German army blew up all the bridges to fortify their stronghold on Castle Hill. After the war, the bridge was rebuilt and reopened in 1949, a hundred years after its original completion. On the Buda side of the bridge, there is a vertical cable car that takes you up to the castle. Highlights   Chain Bridge, construction of which began in 1839 and was completed in 1849, is the oldest and most magnificent of the nine bridges connecting Buda and Pest.
