Buda Castle

Buda Castle, also known as the "Royal Palace" or "Royal Castle," is located on the southern side of Castle Hill in Budapest, Hungary, and borders the famous Castle District to the north. It is said that the Castle District is renowned worldwide for its ancient and magnificent medieval architecture, Baroque buildings, and houses and churches constructed in the 19th century, attracting visitors and architects from all over the world. In 1987, Buda Castle was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Budapest Historic Centre, and is widely referred to as the Hungarian equivalent of the Forbidden City.

Buda Castle was first built in 1247 when King Béla IV of Hungary constructed this grand fortress to defend against the invasion of the Tatars. Later, King Sigismund of Luxembourg transformed the original structure into a Gothic royal palace. Between 1541 and 1686, during the Ottoman occupation of Budapest, Buda Castle was used as a barracks and mosque. It wasn't until the 17th century, when the Habsburg dynasty drove out the Ottomans, that Buda Castle was rebuilt in the Baroque style. Today, Buda Castle serves as an art gallery and museum for visitors to admire. Its exquisite architecture and valuable collections inside have earned praise from tourists around the world.
