Millennium Monument

The Millennium Monument is situated on Heroes' Square in front of City Park in Budapest, Hungary. It stands as one of the most representative structures among the numerous architectural and urban development initiatives built to commemorate the 1896 Millennium Celebrations marking 1,000 years since the Hungarian conquest. These projects included the Liberty Bridge, the Grand Boulevard, the metro, villas, courthouses, hotels, theaters, and a series of sports facilities, many of which still remain today as testimonies to Budapest’s development.

Hungary undertook a comprehensive restoration of the Millennium Monument between 2000 and 2001. It was reopened on August 18, 2001, and designated as a national historic monument. The monument features an eclectic style and takes the form of a semicircle, measuring 85 meters in width, 25 meters in depth, and 13 meters in height. It has two porticos, with seven statues of notable figures on each side. These vivid and lifelike statues depict the heroic deeds of the figures and are beloved and admired by visitors from all over the world.
