Memorial Park

Memorial Park is an open-air museum located in the suburbs of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. It was primarily established to commemorate Hungary's brief communist era (1949–1989). The park displays statues of world-renowned communist figures like Marx, Engels, and Lenin, along with Hungarian communist leaders such as Béla Kun, Endre Ságvári, and Árpád Szakasits, making it a popular destination for visitors from all over.

Memorial Park was established in 1993. Due to funding issues at the time, the park was left unfinished, with some key elements of its original design not yet completed. Nevertheless, it has welcomed numerous visitors since its opening. After attracting large crowds of interested tourists during its initial weeks and months, visitor numbers eventually stabilized. The debate surrounding the creation of this park featuring communist-era sculptures gradually subsided. In 2006, a life-sized replica of the Stalin Monument from Budapest was added to the park. This sculpture is not a direct copy of the original but an artistic reinterpretation by artist Ákos Eleőd. Its unveiling marked a new chapter in the development of Memorial Park. In 2007, the park introduced a new exhibition hall and a small cinema, offering visitors a comprehensive look at the history of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, the political transition of 1989–1990, and the history of the park itself.

Over the years, Memorial Park has not only become a famous tourist attraction in Budapest but has also evolved into a cultural and educational hub, hosting numerous festivals and major events each year that continue to draw steady streams of visitors.
