Petőfi Bridge

Petőfi Bridge is a major bridge situated southeast of downtown Budapest, crossing the Danube River and linking Pest and Buda. Originally named Horthy Miklós Bridge after Regent Miklós Horthy, it was later renamed Petőfi Bridge in honor of Sándor Petőfi. With its elegant design, it quietly spans the beautiful Danube, not only providing great convenience for the daily commute of Budapest residents but also becoming one of the city's renowned landmarks. Especially at night, illuminated by landscape lighting, it becomes even more dazzling, attracting many tourists to stop and admire.

The Petőfi Bridge was first constructed between 1933 and 1937. Including its approach spans, it has a total length of about 514 meters and a width of 25.6 meters. Despite decades of weathering, it still stands firmly over the Danube. The bridge connects Bologház Square at one end and Goldmann György Square at the other. Bologház Square marks the southern terminus of Budapest’s famous Outer Ring Road and is also the main terminal of the HÉV (commuter rail) to Csepel, playing an important role in facilitating tourist travel. Goldmann György Square is adjacent to the campus of Budapest University of Technology and Economics, making it another high-traffic area.
