The Rock of Europe

The Rock of Europe is located at the end of the Rock of Gibraltar, a platform beneath the highest peak of the mountain, still over a hundred meters above sea level, with steep cliffs that are extremely difficult to climb. The Rock of Europe marks the southernmost point of Gibraltar and also the southernmost point of mainland Europe, much like China's Tianya Haijiao on Hainan Island. Across the strait, you can see the dark coastline of the African continent 14 kilometers away.

On the Rock of Europe sits a sports field and several structures, among which four are particularly notable: the Ibrahim-Ibrahim Mosque, the Roman Catholic Shrine of Our Lady of Europe, the Europa Point Lighthouse, and the Nun’s Well. The white Ibrahim-Ibrahim Mosque was built by the Moors; near the coast stands the towering Europa Point Lighthouse, whose light reaches up to 27 kilometers out, guiding ships at night. Additionally, the sports field on the Rock of Europe is the only designated training ground for the Gibraltar national cricket team.

Taking a ferry from the Rock of Europe, it takes about an hour to reach the opposite shore in Morocco. Currently, the UK and Morocco have reached an agreement to build a submarine tunnel, which will make transportation between Europe and Africa even more convenient.
