Hastings

Hastings is located 39 km east of Lewes and 85 km southeast of London. It is a town and borough on the southeast coast of East Sussex, England. The area is historically known as the site of the Norman Conquest of England and was once an important fishing port and seaside resort.

Hastings Castle is one of the notable attractions, built by the Normans in 1070. It is situated on West Hill, overlooking the town, and has been designated as a Grade I listed historic building. Nearby, St. Clement’s Caves were used by smugglers to hide contraband goods, and regular exhibitions recreate the historical atmosphere of the time. Hastings Pier and the Maritime Court along the coastal road at St. Leonards are also well-known landmarks. Visiting the Hastings Sea Life Centre, which features a diverse range of marine species, feels like being surrounded by fish swimming all around you.

The area is home to four museums: Hastings Museum and Art Gallery, Old Town Hall Museum, Hastings Fishermen’s Museum, and Shipwreck Heritage Centre, with the first three open year-round. The Hastings Old Town Carnival Week held every August is also a major highlight, featuring dazzling fireworks, bustling seafood markets, and traditional delicacies that are sure to leave visitors enchanted.
