Introduction

Magdalene College was founded in 1428 and was the last all-male college at the University of Cambridge. The college began admitting women in 1988. It is said that on the first day of the semester when women were first admitted, all the male students wore black armbands, and the college flag flew at half-mast that day.

The bridge next to Magdalene College was originally built in the mid-17th century as a wooden structure and was replaced by a stone bridge in 1754. The current bridge was constructed in 1823, and due to heavy traffic, it requires regular reinforcement. Some say the name "Cambridge" comes from this bridge: River Cam (the River Cam) plus bridge, equals Cambridge. Transport Bridge Street crosses the River Cam from the city center to the college via Magdalene Bridge.
