Cambridge

Cambridge, formerly transliterated as "Kangqiao," is a city, borough and non-metropolitan district in Cambridgeshire, East of England. It is the oldest university city in the UK. In addition to the architecture of the University of Cambridge, the city also boasts shops, parks, teahouses, as well as department stores, shops, and sports facilities that represent its modern side.

The name "Cambridge" means "bridge over the River Cam." Indeed, there is a River Cam that loops grandly through the city before flowing northeast. Numerous bridges were built over the river, hence the city's name. "Farewell to Cambridge Again" is a popular new poem by Chinese poet Xu Zhimo. In the autumn of 1928, during his final revisit to Cambridge in England, Xu took a boat back to China. While passing through the South China Sea, he infused the scenery of Cambridge and his nostalgic sentiments into the poem, expressing a subtle sorrow of bidding farewell to the city. Since the publication of the poem, its lines have been set to music many times, and one line—"Gently I leave, just as gently I came"—has become a widely recited and cherished phrase in China.

Like Oxford, Cambridge is a traditionally captivating university city. The University of Cambridge has achieved particularly remarkable success in the natural sciences, nurturing scientific pioneers such as Newton and Darwin who ushered in new eras of science. Over 60 Nobel Prize laureates have walked the grounds of Cambridge, an honor rarely seen anywhere else in the world. People admire it and refer to Cambridge as the "Cradle of Natural Science."
