In the UK, leisure travel wouldn’t be complete without visiting a noble estate. Many people know about Blenheim Palace near Oxford, but there’s another estate you shouldn’t miss—Burghley House in Cambridgeshire. The manor scenery and some interior scenes from the 2005 film *Pride and Prejudice* were filmed here, as was *The Da Vinci Code*.

William Cecil, who lived in the 16th century, was a renowned politician of his time. He built this estate not only to showcase the prominence of his family in that era but also as a residence to host the Queen. By the 17th century, the 5th Marquess enlisted famous craftsmen of the time to carry out extensive interior renovations, which continued for a quarter of a century. Additionally, members of the family traveled abroad and purchased high-quality fine artworks to enrich the collection. Inside the building, every room is exquisitely decorated, with walls and ceilings exuding an aristocratic—and even slightly royal—aura that is truly breathtaking.

Burghley House is one of the most magnificent estates of the Elizabethan era. The Cecil family has lived here for 18 generations and continues to do so to this day. The exterior of this exquisite 16th-century estate has remained almost unchanged, but the interior and the displayed collections have evolved in taste over the centuries. Several rooms inside the building were used as filming locations for movies and are still arranged as they were—or perhaps always were, and simply borrowed for the films.
