Curve Theatre

Curve Theatre is located in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter in the UK, adjacent to the renowned Leicester Athena Conference Centre, and opened in November 2008. Formerly known as the Leicester Performing Arts Centre, it was renamed Curve Theatre after the unveiling of its distinctive new curved architectural design.

Designed by the renowned Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly, the theatre features two auditoriums: a main hall with 750 fixed seats and a multi-purpose hall with 350 seats. A 32-ton steel wall separates the stage from the foyer and can be raised to allow passersby outside to catch a glimpse of performances. The open-plan foyer has a glass façade, offering views of the café, bar, and stage from the outside. This transparent effect reflects the design philosophy — making art accessible to people from all walks of life.

As a first-class theatre, Curve Theatre’s unique design and operational concept have attracted widespread attention from local residents. To meet the theatre’s special requirements, its construction company provided a full set of lighting equipment, including long-throw profile lanterns, follow spots, Fresnel and crystal lenticular spotlights. At night, the interplay of colorful lights creates a stunning visual effect.
