This historic structure once served as the town hall of Leicester until 1876, when the council moved to a new town hall building and was subsequently retired.

Although some parts of Leicester Town Hall date back many centuries, the majority of the current structure was built in the 15th century. It is situated next to Leicester’s old city walls, on a street now called Town Hall Street. Originally used for meetings of the Corpus Christi Guild, the building later hosted more sessions of the Leicester City Council. The hall has served various purposes over time, including meetings, banquets, courts, and theatrical performances. It is most famously known for hosting meetings during the English Civil War. Today, Leicester Town Hall functions as an arts performance venue and museum.

According to reports, Leicester Town Hall is said to be haunted by five ghosts, making it one of Leicester's most famous haunted historical buildings. It has also appeared multiple times on the TV show "Most Haunted Live!", which has made it a popular destination for those interested in the supernatural.
