The Lapworth Museum of Geology is located in Birmingham and was established in 1880. Managed by the University of Birmingham, it is one of the oldest geological museums in the UK. This museum provides rich teaching resources for numerous schools and serves as a hub for student research.

The museum is named after Charles • Lapworth, a pioneer of the University of Birmingham and one of the most renowned geologists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The museum boasts a diverse and extensive collection, featuring 250,000 specimens, including rocks, fossils, minerals, early geological maps, tools, models, photographs, as well as animal specimens and stone axes. Its fossil collection plays a significant role in both historical and scientific research, with the best-preserved fossils from the Midlands region of the UK enjoying international acclaim. In addition to UK fossils, the museum also houses complete specimens of fish, dragonflies, crabs, lobsters, and pterosaurs from Germany, as well as fish fossils from Brazil, Italy, Lebanon, and the United States. Among its many fossil collections, the most famous is the 510-million-year-old Burgess Shale from British Columbia.

The mineral collection at the Lapworth Museum of Geology contains over 15,000 specimens from around the world, many of which are rare and scarce. Some even sparkle brilliantly, offering visitors an eye-opening experience.
