The Museum of Nature and Man is located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Established in 1958, it primarily introduces the natural and human history of the Canary Islands, featuring a vast collection of outstanding archaeological artifacts, and is considered the best museum for pre-Hispanic Canary Islands items. The museum’s collection includes specimens related to paleontology, botany, entomology, marine life, and terrestrial vertebrates, making it the finest natural history museum in the Canary Islands.

This large museum also holds the most extensive collection of items related to the indigenous Guanche people of the Canary Islands, as well as being recognized for its use of modern methods in mummy preservation. Its permanent exhibitions focus on archaeology and indigenous funerary objects, such as skulls and mummies of the Canary Islands’ original inhabitants, grave goods, and more. The highlight is the well-preserved mummy of a Guanche king. The museum also boasts an extensive collection of pottery, fossils of prehistoric animals from the Canary Islands and other parts of the world—such as giant rat fossils, giant lizard fossils, and megalodon teeth.
