To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Cruise Whitsundays has partnered with Hamilton Island to host celebratory events. During the Lunar New Year period, at Whitehaven Beach—one of the most stunning beaches in the world—the company has invited world-class sand sculpting masters to hand-carve a life-size “horse” sand sculpture each day. Visitors can not only watch the creation process and enjoy taking photos, but also try their hand at sand sculpting themselves.

During the Spring Festival, Cruise Whitsundays will operate multiple daily boat trips to Whitehaven Beach, with available spaces for visitors to book. Sales General Manager Phillipa Harrison said that a festive atmosphere will be created on Hamilton Island to welcome Chinese visitors. Street stalls will be set up and a Chinese dragon dance performance will be held. Visiting Whitehaven Beach during the New Year not only offers breathtaking views of the iconic landscapes of the Whitsunday Islands, but also unique horse-themed sand sculptures celebrating the Year of the Horse.

World sand sculpting champion Dennis Massoud has worked on sand art projects in China’s Gobi Desert for five consecutive years and showcased outstanding works at the Luliang International Sand Sculpture Festival. From January 31 to February 6, Massoud will create a life-size horse sand sculpture on Whitehaven Beach every day and will also guide visitors in making mini sand sculptures.

All visitors arriving at Whitehaven Beach via Cruise Whitsundays will be able to view the sand sculpture performances for free. The half-day tour of Whitehaven Beach starts from $99, with boats departing daily from Hamilton Island, Airlie Beach, Daydream Island, and Long Island. During the Lunar New Year celebration period, Cruise Whitsundays will have Chinese-speaking staff specially assigned on board the ships traveling to the Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach, as well as at the sand sculpture event site, to better serve visiting Chinese tourists.
