To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Cruise Whitsundays will collaborate with Hamilton Island to hold celebratory events. During the Lunar New Year period, at Whitehaven Beach—one of the most stunning beaches in the world—world-class sand sculpting masters will be invited to hand-carve a life-sized "horse" sand sculpture each day. Visitors can not only watch the sand sculptures being created and enjoy taking photos, but also try their hand at making their own sand art.

During the Spring Festival, Cruise Whitsundays will operate multiple daily boat trips to Whitehaven Beach, with availability for booking. Sales General Manager Phillipa Harrison stated that a festive atmosphere for Chinese New Year will be created on Hamilton Island, featuring street stalls and Chinese dragon dance performances. Visiting Whitehaven Beach during the holiday not only offers stunning views of the iconic landscapes of the Whitsunday Islands, but also unique horse-themed sand sculptures to mark the Year of the Horse.

World sand sculpting champion Dennis Massoud has spent five years creating sand art in China’s Gobi Desert and has presented outstanding works at the Luliang International Sand Sculpture Festival. From January 31 to February 6, Massoud will create a life-sized horse sand sculpture on Whitehaven Beach daily and will also guide visitors in making mini sand sculptures.

All visitors arriving at Whitehaven Beach via Cruise Whitsundays will be able to view the sand sculpture displays for free. The half-day tour of Whitehaven Beach starts from $99 AUD, with boats departing daily from Hamilton Island, Airlie Beach, Daydream Island, and Long Island. During the Lunar New Year celebration period, Cruise Whitsundays will have Chinese-speaking staff on board ships heading to the Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach, as well as at the sand sculpture event site, to better serve Chinese visitors.
