To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Cruise Whitsundays has partnered with Hamilton Island to host celebratory events. During the Lunar New Year period, at Whitehaven Beach — recognized as one of the most stunning beaches globally — world-class sand sculpting masters will hand-carve a life-size horse sand sculpture each day. Visitors can not only watch the creation process and enjoy photo opportunities but also try their hand at making their own sand sculptures.

During the Spring Festival, Cruise Whitsundays has arranged multiple daily boat trips to Whitehaven Beach, with available spaces still open for booking. Sales General Manager Phillipa Harrison stated that a festive atmosphere will be created for Chinese visitors on Hamilton Island, featuring street stalls and traditional Chinese dragon dance performances. Visiting Whitehaven Beach during the New Year not only offers breathtaking views of the iconic Whitsunday Islands but also the chance to see horse-themed sand sculptures unique to the Year of the Horse.

World sand sculpting champion Dennis Massoud has spent five years creating sand art in China’s Gobi Desert and showcased outstanding works at the Luliang International Sand Sculpture Festival. From January 31 to February 6, Massoud will create a life-size horse sand sculpture on Whitehaven Beach daily and will also guide visitors in making mini sand sculptures.

All visitors arriving at Whitehaven Beach via Cruise Whitsundays will be able to view the sand sculpture displays for free. The half-day tour of Whitehaven Beach starts from $99, with boats departing daily from Hamilton Island, Airlie Beach, Daydream Island, and Long Island. During the Lunar New Year celebration period, Cruise Whitsundays will have Chinese-speaking staff on board ships heading to the Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach, as well as at the sand sculpture event site, to better serve Chinese visitors.
