Drottningholm Palace

Introduction Drottningholm Palace is part of the Royal Domain, located 15 kilometers from the city center. Inspired by the Palace of Versailles in France, it is known as the "Versailles of Sweden" and is the first scenic site in Sweden to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Attractions within the grounds include Drottningholm Palace, the Royal Theatre, the Chinese Pavilion, and the gardens. Drottningholm Palace is the heart of this royal estate. The theatre’s golden age was during the reign of King Gustav III, who was later assassinated at a masquerade ball held there, leading to the theatre’s closure. In 1922, it was restored and performances resumed in its original form. Today, the theatre still stages classical plays. The Chinese Pavilion consists of a main palace building and two pavilions, both featuring Chinese and Asian artistic styles inside and out.
