The Royal Library of Sweden is the national library of Sweden, located in Humlegården Park in central Stockholm. The library collects and preserves all sound, image, and printed materials published and distributed within Sweden. Its collections are open to the public, but its work primarily serves research institutions. Materials in its collection cannot be borrowed but must be studied on-site at the library. Most materials are kept in storage, so reservations must be made in advance.

The library’s collection includes over twenty million items, consisting not only of books but also posters, images, manuscripts, and advertising prints. Its audiovisual collection spans more than seven million hours of recordings. The library also manages personal archives of individuals such as Astrid Lindgren, August Strindberg, and Dag Hammarskjöld.

According to current legal deposit regulations, publishers of materials intended for distribution in Sweden are required to submit one copy of each item to the Royal Library and six other research libraries. Producers of music, film, television, or radio content must also deliver copies to the library, though in some cases only parts of the broadcast material may be required.
