Tyresta National Park

Tyresta National Park is a national park surrounded by nature reserves, located on land in the municipalities of Haninge and Tyresö in Stockholm County, Sweden. Established in 1993, the park itself covers an area of 19.7 square kilometers, while the surrounding nature reserves span 27 square kilometers, bringing the total protected area to approximately 47 square kilometers, making it one of the larger national parks in Sweden.

Tyresta National Park is one of Sweden’s largest remaining primeval woodland areas outside of alpine regions, preserved for its unique natural value. It is a vast and rare expanse of untouched forest, with a 30-kilometer perimeter where visitors can see many pine trees, some over 400 years old. The park features numerous clear lakes and a rich diversity of rare wildlife. This remarkable variety of flora and fauna is one of the park’s main highlights—home to around 8,000 animal species, which is four times more than in forests that have been developed by humans. In addition, the park also showcases deciduous broadleaf woodlands, open farmland, and historical ruins.
