Laeken Royal Estate

Introduction   The history of the Laeken Royal Estate dates back to the 18th century when it was part of the Austrian Empire. During the French and Dutch occupations, Laeken served as Napoleon’s residence, and later it was also home to the King of the Netherlands. Since Belgium’s independence in 1830, the Laeken estate has been a royal residence, and the current estate still retains the appearance of that time. The greenhouse garden, built in 1873, skillfully employs metal and glass materials, giving it a crystal-clear look. The greenhouse houses a collection of exotic plants and flowers, and is open to the public every early spring. Transportation   Take the metro to Heysel Station, where you can visit the Atomium as well.
