Brussels Town Hall is located in the center of the Grand Place in Brussels, Belgium. It is a typical example of ancient Flemish Gothic architecture, with a majestic and soaring structure that is highly eye-catching. The construction of the town hall began in 1402, and its tower stands approximately 91 meters tall, topped with a 5-meter-high statue of the city’s patron saint, Saint Michael.

The main entrance of Brussels Town Hall is not centered, and neither is the tower, which is slightly off to one side. In fact, the reason the tower and the entrance are not perfectly aligned is that the entire building was constructed in three separate phases over time, resulting in its current asymmetrical layout. The interior is exquisitely decorated, with magnificent patterns painted on the ceiling, finely carved railings, and a snow-white marble staircase that curves upward like a silver snake. The corridors are adorned with colorful murals. Among the many large portraits are images of Belgian monarchs, kings of Spain, the Netherlands, and France who once ruled Brussels, as well as portraits of Napoleon, known as the “man of destiny,” who once swept across the European continent.
