Royal Museums of the Armed Forces and of Military History

The Royal Museums of the Armed Forces and of Military History, commonly referred to as the Royal Military Museum, is located in the northernmost two halls of the historic complex in Brussels' Cinquantenaire Park. During the 1910 exhibition, the military history section was opened to the public and received great acclaim. In response to the public's enthusiasm, the authorities established an army museum in the highly tense international context just before World War I. The museum was initially housed in the Abbaye de La Cambre and was later moved to Cinquantenaire Park in 1923.

Originally, the Royal Military Museum had around 900 items collected by Louis Leconte, who selected them from equipment abandoned by Germany in 1918 and put them on display. Later, the collection was greatly enriched through bequests, donations, and exchanges. Today, the museum houses uniforms, weapons, vehicles, and military equipment from various countries and time periods. The north hall, built by Gédéon Bordiau, has been home to the aviation hall since 1972, which includes a variety of aircraft, some of which date back to the early 20th century.
