Brussels is the capital and largest city of Belgium, serving as the country’s political, economic, and cultural center, as well as the location of the main administrative bodies of the European Union. Modern-day Brussels has become home to the headquarters of numerous international organizations, the most prominent being the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Brussels enjoys a mild and humid climate and boasts numerous historic landmarks. Its architecture ranges from the medieval-style Grand Place to the postmodern structures of the EU institutions, encompassing a wide variety of elements and cultural symbols. Among the most famous buildings in Brussels are the Grand Place and the Brussels Town Hall at its center, the Saint Michael and Saint Gudula Cathedral, the Royal Palace of Laeken known for its massive glass conservatories, and the Atomium. One of Brussels’ most iconic landmarks is the Royal Palace, while another is the Manneken Pis statue, a bronze fountain sculpture that is a must-see for visitors. Other notable attractions in Brussels include the Cinquantenaire Park, built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Belgian independence, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the Palace of Justice, and a series of buildings constructed for EU organizations.

Cultural facilities in Brussels include the Théâtre de la Balsamine, the historic Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, and many others. In addition, there are over 40 diverse museums, such as the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium which houses a large collection of works by Rubens, the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History, and the Belgian Comic Strip Center.
