Schaerbeek

Schaerbeek is located in the Brussels-Capital Region of Belgium and is nicknamed the "City of Donkeys." This name comes from the past when the main ingredient for cherry beer—sour European cherries—was produced here. Locals often used donkeys to transport the cherries to processing facilities, hence the nickname.

Schaerbeek is divided into eastern and western parts. The eastern section is currently home to affluent residents, featuring a pleasant environment and beautiful architecture. Many are drawn to its "Notting Hill vibe." The western part is mainly a Moroccan immigrant neighborhood where you can enjoy authentic Moroccan cuisine. The city boasts a vibrant artistic atmosphere with numerous Art Deco and Art Nouveau buildings. Among them, the popular Maison Autrique is the first residence in the Brussels-Capital Region built by the renowned Belgian architect Victor Horta. The impressive town hall, inaugurated in 1887 under King Leopold II, remains a magnificent sight to this day.

The elegant and tranquil Josaphat Park is a green paradise in the city and also a great place to appreciate art, essentially an outdoor sculpture gallery showcasing works by many well-known sculptors.
