Ancient Roman Theater
Introduction As early as 43 BC, the ancient Romans built a luxurious theater in Lyon. By the 2nd century AD, 11,000 additional seats were added to the theater space, reflecting the grandeur of performances at that time. Today, after extensive research by archaeologists in Lyon, the stage structure—originally designed to enhance acoustics—has been reconstructed, and a scaled-down model of it is displayed in the museum.
The Ancient Roman Theater consists of one large and one small semi-circular auditorium, both of which remain well-preserved. It is not merely an excavated relic for tourists to view; large-scale concerts, recitals, operas, and other performances are still held here. It can accommodate up to 10,000 spectators. Transport Take the tram and get off at the Vieux Lyon station.
