Popular JR East Japan railway bento boxes available for a limited time at Taiwan Railways

These popular bento boxes from Tokyo Station will be on sale at Taipei Main Station from August 12 to August 31—a nearly three-week period. To celebrate the first-ever shop in Taiwan, JR East Japan has gone all out by flying in a lucky capsule toy machine worth nearly one million yen. On the opening day, August 12, every customer who purchases a bento can enjoy a free capsule toy. The toys feature popular characters from Tokyo's Yamanote Line, such as Hachiko the loyal dog, Ueno pandas, and Tokyo Station. There are also must-have collectibles for train enthusiasts, including miniatures of the recently retired "Dreamy Cassiopeia sleeper train" and the "E6 Akita Shinkansen," designed by Ferrari’s car designer—all transformed into adorable models for fans to collect.

Additionally, JR East Japan will launch the “Tohoku Gratitude Festival” on August 23. The first 30 people to buy a bento that day will each receive an exclusive limited-edition SUICA Penguin pillow, the official mascot of JR East Japan. There will also be a Japanese prize machine where you can win big prizes like the JR East Japan PASS Tohoku Edition (worth 19,000 yen), a life-sized SUICA Penguin pillow, and Shinkansen models. The million-yen capsule toy machine will also make a return appearance. Even if you don’t win the grand prize, you can still take home a capsule featuring a Tohoku attraction. Moreover, an extra special self-heating, magical beef tongue bento will be introduced, giving Taiwanese visitors a taste of the culinary delights of Japan’s Tohoku region.

For this limited-time shop collaboration between JR East Japan and Taiwan Railways, there will be a daily limit of 50 E7 Shinkansen bento boxes and 50 Japanese Hospitality Bentos, along with 100 deep-sea bentos available each day. Fans eager to try the charm of Japanese railway bento boxes should seize this opportunity to savor them.
